Viuluvartalo is a performative piece and instrument researching instruments as extensions of the human body. The title means in Finnish “violin body” and the performance wonders where does the body of the musician end and the instrument start? Viuluvartalo makes a statement about the unergonomic playing position of the violin and it suggests alternative and humorous ways to think how to play the instrument. The piece creates visual and sonic images through performative gestures, sound manipulation and different objects.
